Z Scale Train Kits

Every child loves miniature trains and they don’t have to be a boy or a girl, they all like the excitement associated with running their train around the tracks at high speeds and hearing the whistle blow. This excitement is especially high when using the Z scale train kits. In this way more details can be added to your layout to create a small size town which is sure to attract the attention of these young children.

Rumors have been floating around that the manufacturers of these Z scale accessories have not created sufficient variety in buildings, scenery decorations and other related items to compete with the larger scale models. When someone shows you their Z scale train layout it is usually constructed on a small coffee table so one can see how the diehard modeler can be construed to think that no much is available. They are looking to develop large table model versions with dozens of homes and hundreds of different accessories. In short they are seeking realism.

A recent poll conducted seems to indicate that Z scale train kits represent only 2 percentage of the primary scale which is used by many modelers. These are not large numbers and tend to reflect the point that users of Z scale are still a rather small percentage or the poll did not properly include the Z scale population. If these figures are true and reflect the modeler’s choices then it is no wonder that the manufacturers do not tool up to create more accessories specifically meant for the z scale modeler. To these manufacturers it is not profitable to create the added features that the few modelers desire. They simply feel their work is not being adequately appreciated. Given these circumstances it is easy to see why the Z scale train kits are restricted to the living room coffee table.

In any business venture the goal is to make money and in order to establish a catalog base for z scale train kits the hobby will have to enlist new converts and fans. With no growth showing towards the scale the companies are not going to expand their productions.

Many hobbyists believe that the place for the Z scale train kits lie in the beginner’s area. They do not feel that these small miniatures are a proper substitute for the larger based layouts. They like the idea that the Z scale train kits are an excellent way to introduce new users to the world of trains without overwhelming them with the challenge of elaborate layouts. They state that the smaller layouts help the user to build confidence as well as to gain the satisfaction of completing their first train layout. One of the problems associated with any scale of model train is the very act of taking on too large of a task without properly knowing what will be involved. With the small Z scale train kits this appears to be much less apt to occur.
